Brianne Howey, the girl who knows what she wants
Whitney Taylor on “Twisted” is a self-assured girl who will do anything to get what she wants. She has a strong bond with her father Jack and they are determined to carry out a plan.
Whitney has also a really interesting relationship with Lacey. At the beginning of the show, we saw that she was into her, but after the last episode we don’t know if her feelings were real or that they were a part of the plan she had with her father (portrayed by Ivan Sergei).
Just like Whitney, Brianne Howey knew what she wanted to do for a long time. In high school she joined the improv team and that led her into acting.
In a conversation with The Outsider Argentina, Brianne spoke about her character on Twisted, what is coming for her and the newest projects: the movie “Horrible Bosses 2” and the TV shows “Hart of Dixie” and “Playing House”.
How did you start acting?
Well, I tried out for everything imaginable in high school and the only team I made was the improv team. I had finally found my niche and from there improv led right into acting.
What can you tell us about your experience on “Red Scare”?
I love getting to work on period pieces! Red Scare took place in the 50’s so everything from the hair and make up to the wardrobe was really fun to play around with. It was easy to step right into character because the art department had done such an incredible job as well.
How did you get the opportunity of being on “Twisted”? Have you watched the show before?
Yes, my little sister was a Victorious fan so I was familiar was Avan’s work. After multiple auditions I had a chemistry read with Kylie Bunbury and we had a lot of fun with it. I wanted the role even more after that. It suddenly became real.
How can you describe your character Whitney?
Whitney is a very independent and self-assured girl who knows exactly what she wants and will do anything to get it.
The relationship between Whitney and Lacey is very special, how do you think that is it going to develop? How is it like working with Kylie Bunbury?
Whitney and Lacey find each other at very vulnerable times in one another’s lives. Their relationship was all about exploration and pushing boundaries from the very beginning. The way the season ends Whitney has lost a lot of Lacey’s trust so she is going to have to work hard to regain it. I have so much respect for Kylie and the work she puts out. It was a pleasure.
Most of the characters on Twisted are struggling with their past, what does Whitney want to leave behind?
Whitney had a certain reputation after getting kicked out of boarding school (again) and wanted a fresh start. So of course, she runs away from home and moves in with Jack in Green Grove! However, I think she managed to bring her reputation right along with her.
What is coming up for Whitney and her father Jack?
Time will tell. They have a unique bond and a clear plan in mind. Whatever they do, they do together.
Which are your projects for this year?
I’m really excited for Horrible Bosses 2 to be released this fall. I had an amazing experience getting to work with that cast. Since Twisted I’ve worked on Hart of Dixie which was another fun ‘good girl gone bad’ role. Also Playing House, which is a new USA show with really strong comedic female leads, which I love. I’m looking forward to what’s to come!
